Gamemaster Information

Experience Awards

The GM is solely responsible for any experience-based awards. Please do not send the author nasty letters demanding that the system be improved because your character has not advanced as quickly as you would like.

Chapter 5

Magic, Faith & Related Topics

Magic is the manipulation of the Threads of Reality, also known as the Threads of Magic, which compose the Tapestry of the universe. A character’s ability to use magic is measured by his Level in Magical Ability. Not all magic, however, is truly magic.

Chapter 4

Combat System & Weapons

True combat is messy and seldom fun for the participants—well, not for all of them, anyway. As this is The Game and supposed to be fun for all involved, some structure had to be super-imposed over the chaos of battle.

Chapter 3

Character Skills

There is only so far exceptional Attributes can take a character. Sooner or later she is going to need to learn how to improve on what nature provided. Muscles alone do not make horseshoes; quick feet do not grow food; an ability to make choices does not mean the character knows what choices are available; and so on. Training is necessary, and knowledge.

Chapter 2

Character Attributes

The character is more than just a collection of numbers, though there certainly do seem to be a lot of them. Giving life to the numbers is what playing The Game (or any RPG) is all about.

Character Creation Basics

The following steps describe how to create a character for play in The Game. These steps are here for a general guide, and are not gospel. Your Gamemaster (GM) has the final say on how your character is created.

A Brief History of The Game

The Game has its roots in a from-scratch system originally developed by Bernard Beam in the summer of 1989. This was a very simple skill-based system that relied heavily on the creativity of both the players and the GM. Incidentally, this was also the first non-computer RPG that the author ever took part in. Over the course of the next several years, the system was developed and reworked several times.

Introduction

Welcome to The Game!

Originally developed with delusions of publishing, The Game has become the system of choice for the author (shocking, no?). Despite subjecting the players over the years to various rules revisions, a core of loyal The Gamers has actually come to be (and some of them are not even related!).
