I've read all the arguments both ways here, and well, I have to agree: I
too have been sorely disappointed by Beast Wars. Like many, being it
was TF, I found myself 'trying' to convince myself that it was good,
solely for the fact it was classified Transformers. The writers were
definately reaching when they made an 'ape' Prime. If he had to be an
animal, maybe a lion, for 'king of the jungle', but ape??
My first sight of BW was on cartoon network when they showed inside the
original ark the 'actual' Transformers with Optimus Prime, and 'real'
Megatron. I had realized something at that point: the reason I was
watching Beast wars was to hopefully find some of the original
personalities that I missed from the original TF. And seeing the old
forms as the Beast Megatron passed them only made my heart sink, and
made me depressed; cause it wasn't the same.
But, I still didn't want to argue against it. Afterall, if people go
against BW, who's to say the writers would ever bother to make any other
future attempts at TF in the future. Perhaps, if the people who are
against the show just shut up, they may someday bring back the old TF.
I know, it's foolish thinking. But, that's what originally went in my
head. I guess I'll just have to accept that no matter what the people's
thought are, TF -- the REAL TF will undoubtedly never hit the screens
with new shows again.
I noticed one person argued that this should be blamed on Rodimus Prime,
since he killed the original Prime. Well, if it wasn't fiction, I'd
agree. But, it's a cartoon. Therefore, you have to blame the writers,
and creators of the show for destroying what they created. If anyone
ever read the stories written by Birgit Staebler, you would see the
proper direction they should have taken the movie: instead of killing
off all the characters, for a new line of toys, they should have
scratched the unicron crap and created a true foe. One that would force
Autobot & Decepticons to join forces against a common enemy. That way,
everyone's favorite characters are the hero's, are STILL alive, and it
even satisfies the manufacturers, cause the enemy can be their NEW toy
line. But, no......they screwed everything up, and now we have to pay
with Beast wars.
There's one thing I have to argue on for the A-BW: The 2nd generation
was NOT better storylines, it SUCKED. They had a stupid leader, who was
responsible for Prime's death, and since he was too lacking in
intellect, they made the Decepticon leader insane solely for the purpose
that he wouldn't totally kick the living crap out of the hero. Plots
were desperate, characterization was lame to say the least. And the
writers had to bring back Prime in a poor attempt to boost ratings. By
that time, it was too late.
I guess I said enough for now. If this message jumps public, maybe I'll
reply again.

I HAAAAAATE beast Wars.
There are maybe..hmmm...two or three things good about it, but its all the
same product, garbage.
I mean, when you look at eps like Call of the Primitves, the Killing Jar,
MTMTE, Mainly all the season one eps and The Dweller in the Dpeths, And
compare them to The Low Road, Dark Voyage and Coming of the Fuzors part 1, its
all a little silly to beleive. I mean, a TEXAN Robot? Oh, wait, there is
Ironhide. Meh.
Although, there is "Suprise Party" , "Autobop" and "Carnage in C Minor" to
their Transmutate, Gode of Hero and...hmmm...THey dont have that many good
episodes. Anyhow, Poitn being, BW Blows.
I mean, which would you rather have, a corvette with the engine springing out
of the hood with flame detail, or a rat that when you pull his tail he whips
into a robot from inside?
OR A Walther-P38 (It was 38 right? or 32?) or a monkey? Hm, tough decision
there. Although, most imbecilic kids today would probably get that monkey.
Well, I'm sorry to be a pest, jsut thought I'de drop you a line and compliment
you on the anti-BW society. :)

I must say that I agree with you anti-Beast Wars theme. This show lacks something. Heart guts I don't but its missing the charm of the original.
I totally agree. Back in the day the Transformers were passionate
creatures, especially the Autobots. They didn't necessarily want to
fight the Decepticons (like in the first epsiode when they're using
stealth to get some energy sources, rather than brute force), but they
all felt a deep need to protect the humans since they were partly
responsible for bringing the Decepticons to their world. Even the
Decepticons had more believable motivations than the Predacons, they
didn't care about the Autobots (aside from a heavy grudge) they were
after energy and lots of it. The Maximals and Predacons in BW are
exactly alike, they both just fight each other every episode. It is not
a matter of noble morality versus cruel determination as the old TF show
was; BW is just a matter of who started it first, there's certainly no
sense of morality or duty to distinguish the "good guys" over the bad,
they just duke it out every episode.
Also the choice for animal to character was not well thought out. I mean the leader should be a noble animal, like a lion or bear. A gorilla conjures up many images, none of them noble.
Again I must whole-heartedly concur, from bat to monkey, not partcularly
inspiring. When OP was a semi, a massively powerful vehicle devoted
solely to service, that's a noble figure. A monkey?!! Monkey's sit
around doing obscene things all day.
Another point some people missed out on was the character themselves. In the old series Optimus was a noble and self-sacrificing leader. The new Opt seems to lead more with threats than words. On top of that many of the characters, [Rattrap, Dinobot] aside from having stupid names were annoying to the point of obnoxiousness. Its hard to like a show when the characters make you ill.
Truly you are of the same mind as the rest of us here at the Anti-BW
page, I could not have said it better myself.
And as a girl growing up in the 80s Transformers were leaps and bounds ahead of the show made for us.
Which brings me back to one of my original points from a year or so
ago. Transformers were tales of inspiration for our young minds to
embrace, that transcended a gender-specific toy line. They spoke to us
on a higher deeper level, instilling us with a sense of duty and honor.
The Autobots fought the Decepticons because the Decepticons greed
endangered a young species to the point of extinction, and the Autobots
are willing to sacrifice themselves to stop the Decepticons from hurting
or killing the native species. Take for example on of the first
episodes when the Decepticons take over a dam and the Autobots come to
stop them. Ironhide and Bumblebee race a tidal wave to dig a trench
ahead of it to save the locals in the wave's path. They didn't have to
do that, they could have just as easily said 'I'm not risking my life
for them, it's all their misfortune and none of my own', but they did.
And it's tales like these that inspired a deeper, purer sense of beliefs
that are lacking in many areas of our society. Beast Wars is two gangs
fighting over turf every day.
This is my second letter regarding how bad beast wars
is, and I have all kinds of valid assaults on it this time.
Number one, beast wars has gone way too far. In
"The Agenda, Part Three", the bw's find the Ark, and bw megatron
destroys Optimus Primes' head to alter time to cause Decepticon
victory. Beast wars has already tried to bend and mangle
Transformers to meet their greedy, commercial wants, and now
they decide to go and destroy Transformers absolutely!
Beast wars is truly, as you say, a bastardization of
Transformers, especially if they'll go as far to destroy what
we know and love without a second thought, just to make some
more money. Transformers is more than just a commecial product.
It has meaning. We were brought up on it, and it was a special
thing in our lives that has given us special memories. It
was NEVER just a bunch of robots shooting that could turn into
cars!
Secondly, they claim that beast wars is a direct
continuation of Transformers, but they have FAILED in
making it a continuation. One point, which is not the main
point I'm getting at, is that the Transformers did have a sort
of life force, as we know; Optimus Primes' life force
transferred to the Matrix when he died. However, they did not
have "sparks", which could be lost or gained, or put in a box
for bw megatron to squeeze when he got angry. Another point,
Transformers were constructed from parts, as is made clear in
the cartoon. They are NOT, however, created from pools of
mercury ("protoforms"), inside of a Spam can. And now for the
main point: the countless inaccuracies in beast wars when they
find the Ark. When blackarach. and "silverbolt" are wondering
in awe at the Ark, the final events just before the crash are
shown, with the Autobot and Decepticon ships. However, they
show the Decepticon ship firing opon the Autobot ship. NOT
TRUE!! The Decepicons made a magnetic junction with the
Autobot ship and boarded it. No intership fire was exchanged!
Also, the events on board the Ark are incorrect beyond
description! The Ark is drawn wrong, and the
Decepicons never board the Ark, yet somehow they end up aboard
it anyway. The Ark crashes right after the Deceptions were
detected, and a big screen on the bridge informs them of the
detection. We know that the Decepticons were detected,
Prowl made the report vocally to Optimus, and then evasive
maneuvers were implemented. Beast wars shows the Ark, in the
final seconds before impact, spinning on all three axis, and
hitting broad side into the volcano (a note: despite the
broad side impact, the Ark is still wedged in the volcano
head on), and going much to slow to have just hurtled downward
125 kilometers the through the atmosphere. We know that in
the final seconds, Optimus Prime was able to stabilize their
descent before impact, and they hit Mt. Sain Hilary head on at
a realistic velocity. Another error is that inside the Ark,
Optimus Prime is shown dormant, sprawled out in his commander's
chair. WRONG!! Optimus lay dormant face down at the helm,
smashed against it on impact! And what, may I ask, would he
have been doing, sitting in his commander's chair while
Decepticons are swarming around and the ship is hurtling into
a planet!!
First beast wars treads all over Transformers to make
a buck, and then, when they decide to DESTROY Transformers,
they can't even get it right!!!
